Mission Sheds

Exeter Diocese Mission Resource Hub Network – ‘Mission Shed’

Vision and objectives: To establish a network of mission resource hubs across the diocese that will enable and resource growth in both fresh expressions (new forms of church / new congregations) and renewed-expressions of inherited church.

The missional values for the network will comprise the following:

  • S – Serving community
  • H - Healing & Renewal
  • E - Evangelism
  • D – Discipleship (including growing in prayer)
  • Share good practice in growing church through a renewed-expression or fresh expression of church
  • Encourage the initiation of new and growth of existing Fresh Expressions of Church
  • Provide a learning community wherePioneers and Incumbents (and especially lay practitioners / teams) seeking to become more pioneering can learn from each other, be assisted, and energised for mission and growth
  • To provide or identify resource partnerships for those hoping to trial a Fresh Expression of Church or re-expression of inherited church that shows potential for growth
  • Enable intentional learning together (Missional learning communities) - prayer, church planting, discipleship, evangelism etc.
    • Mission shaped Introduction – encourage calling out of individuals and potential teams
    • Mission shaped ministry – training or lay leaders and teams
    • Mentoring / Coaching for teams and leaders
  • Accompany – ‘travel’ alongside and with others seeking to develop and grow Fx’s
  • Encourage and enable ‘Re-Expression’ (Renewed expressions of inherited church models - A way of growth that comes from taking elements from Fx’s that will work in inherited church and responding to ‘come to us’ opportunities that already exist . I.E. Developing All-age worship and Cafe services and other ways of exploring how to make the most of ‘come to us’ opportunities for evangelism.
  • Provide feedback for relevant wider training requirements for ministry and mission to Diocese via Director of Ministry and Mission

Each aims to have a lay and ordained leader acting as coordinators.  The Hubs will serve as a conduit to offer and facilitate other resourcing and training events such as local discipleship courses

It is envisaged that hubs would meet at least four times a year to share experience, peer mentoring, for learning as disciples and mission shaped leadership and discern how they can help communities with growth and discipleship, and an annual gathering for celebration, commissioning,

X 2 Reflection on different activities, good news stories and challenges faced

X 2 Intentional learning – I.E. Discipleship, prayer, sacraments, safeguarding in FEs

X 1 Whole network gathering conference day - Celebration, Key note speaker, Resources,
